Interlude with Marina Wallace

Since 1997, Marina Wallace has written over five books and co-curated ten pioneering exhibitions that prove art and science can be communicated in a way that is daring, creative and wide-reaching, Her most recent project direction was the recent ‘Universal Leonardo’ in Italy, Germany and UK and her presentation tonight will pre-empt a forthcoming exhibition. She is Professor of Curation, Director of Artakt at CSM, Co-Director of Universal Leonardo, Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design, University of the Arts, London. |
| 8.00-9.00pm | Art Exhibition Buddhabrot - The Liberation of Mathematics | Melinda Green, Mathematician | ‘Buddhabrot’ is a special rendering of the interior of the well-known Mandelbrot set. So-named because it resembles depictions of the Buddha, the technique was discovered and described in 1993 by Melinda Green, a US mathematician. She and other mathematicians are collaborating with the Mind and Space Event for the first international hard copy showing of her work. |

Morning Tea with Maggie Boden ![]() |
Margaret Boden is Research Professor of Cognitive Science at the University of Sussex. Her latest books are "The Creative Mind: Myths and Mechanisms" and "Mind As Machine: A History of Cognitive Science" –already hailed as modern classics. Her writing has been translated into 20 foreign languages, and she has given lectures across North and South America, Europe, India, the USSR, and the Pacific. A Fellow of the British Academy and of the American Association for Artificial Intelligence, she holds degrees in medical sciences, philosophy, and psychology - including a Cambridge DSc and three honorary Doctorates. In the New Year Honours list of 2002 she was awarded an OBE "for services to cognitive science." She has two children and three grand-children and lives in Brighton. |

Lunch with Mike Wheeler ![]() |
Mike Wheeler joined the Stirling Philosophy Department in 2004, following teaching and research posts at the Universities of Dundee Oxford and Stirling. As coordinator of the Arts and Humanities Research Council project investigating ‘Interactive Mind’, he facilitated researchers from a provocative and vast array of disciplines to combine art and science with accuracy, humour and collective enthusiasm. His primary research interests are in Philosophy of Science - especially cognitive science, psychology, biology, artificial intelligence and artificial life and philosophy of mind. His book, Reconstructing the Cognitive World: the Next Step, was published by MIT Press in 2005. |

Combining the insights of traditional Buddhist meditation and the modern understanding of Managerial Cybernetics, ‘Designing the World’ allows teams to move through potentially conflicting situations with the ease of story-telling. A sumptuous morning and afternoon tea and a hot lunch are provided, along with all materials. This workshop is especially suitable for facilitators and trainers who wish to expand their repertoire of techniques for creative personal development and community building. |
